In Lullaby for a traveler, composer Yiannis Christofides and director Kestrel Farin Leah rework texts from their stage work ALARM, presented in Los Angeles by REDCAT Studio, Roy and Edna Disney CalArts Theater (2017) and Los Angeles Nomadic Division (2018). Using security alarms and the ancient Greek Sirens as points of departure, ALARM questions boundaries, ownership and power as observed both locally and in the geopolitical scene—performing ideas of need, limit and transgression and implicating us in questions of difference, desire, and law. Lullaby for a traveler contemplates freedom of movement as an ideal in the face of forced displacement and responds to the urban gentrification of migrant communities.
